You need to share your home zip code while creating an account for YouTube TV. You will also asked to share your location via allowing device location permissions on your device. It is mainly done to ensure that you will have the access to local area channels. Let’s discuss on location requirements and how to change your home location.

New Members: Confirm Home Area

Confirm Your Home Area When Signing Up

When you sign up for YouTube, TV, YouTube TV needs to verify your home area for following reasons:
  • It helps in identifying the local channels according to your selected location. Without it you can’t access the correct local channels.
  • It also helps in finding the local taxes in your subscription.
  • Some type of content is available in specific areas as per content requirements and restrictions from our content partners.

Turn On Location Permissions

With the help of internet YouTube TV able to verify your location and allows you to access the correct local channels. If it’s unable to find your device location, you will see an alert message on your TV screen i.e. YouTube TV doesn’t have access. You will be asked- either by your web browser or mobile device to allow permission to YouTube TV to identify your location.

  • Open the YouTube TV app on your TV.
  • Select your profile picture.
  • Select Settings and then Area and then Current Playback Area.
  • On your mobile device, go to tv.youtube.com/verify.
  • Allow the website to access your device’s location to update your current playback area.

Update Current Playback Area On A Mobile Device Or Web Browser

To update current playback area, just follow the below steps:

  • Open your YouTube TV account.
  • Select your profile picture.
  • Select Settings > Area
  • Beside “Current Playback Area”, Select Update.

If we can’t identify your current location, you will be asked to go to tv.youtube.com/verify. Allow the website to access your device location to verify the current playback area.

Troubleshoot Location Permissions
